Kellyn Gerenstein participates in Ohio State Pro Day, will become first Ohio State Club Football player to have jersey retired

No one will ever wear the No. 4 for Ohio State Club Football again.

Ohio State Club Football will officially retire quarterback Kellyn Gerenstein’s No. 4 this year after four incredible seasons with the Buckeyes that included two national championships, three conference championships and four trips to the National Club Football Association playoffs. No. 4 will be the first number ever retired in the history of the program.

Gerenstein played for Ohio State from 2018-2022 and accumulated more than 7,000 yards of offense and 107 total touchdowns in 28 career games. He was named the NCFA’s Offensive MVP in both 2019 and 2022, the only player in league history to win the award twice. He was a three-time All-American, earning first team honors in 2019 and 2022 and second team honors in 2021.

“There is no one more deserving of this honor,” said Head Coach James Grega. “No one in the 15-year history of our program has made a bigger impact on and off the field. We are so proud of everything Kellyn has accomplished and we are so grateful for everything he has given to our team. We know KG is going to be incredibly successful in whatever comes next.”

Gerenstein has spent the last year as a recruiting intern for Ohio State’s NCAA program and on Wednesday was invited to participate in Ohio State’s Pro Day. In doing so, Gerenstein became the fourth former Ohio State Club Football player to participate in Ohio State Pro Day, and the first to do so without at some point appearing on Ohio State’s varsity roster. His results from Pro Day can be seen below.

Working out as a defensive back, Gerenstein shined, making every catch in field drills, including an impressive over-the-shoulder catch to end the workout. His 40-yard dash time tied for third fastest of all Pro Day participants, matching that of varsity defensive back Cam Brown.

After his workout at Pro Day, Gerenstein was asked what his professional prospects were for his post-college career.

“I wouldn’t trade the last five years for anything,” Gerenstein said. “If I do make a mini-camp, I want it to say ‘Ohio State Club Football’ (on the roster), not just ‘Ohio State.'”
